On August 28, 2005, the residence of the Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf was struck by Hurricane Katrina. As we all watched secured levees break and seep its way through Louisiana towns and providence, we could only watch and wait until the victims were evaluated and the dead was counted.
Then, displaced residence sought refuge in Texas, California and other neighboring cities. Now almost three years later, reconstruction has taken place in the region, and life is almost back to normal, except for one simple truth, “devastation still taunts the Gulf,” and displaced residence have yet to return home.
With the mass devastation, rubble and deconstruction of homes and buildings most Louisiana cities have turned to recycling and renewable resources as a means to reduce and reuse. The Initiative of Green The Gulf, takes the concept of using renewable resources as a fundraiser to provide funds to assist 100 families who’s health have been affected by the FEMA Formaldehyde Trailers.
Recycling mixed with entertainment as a national fundraiser has never been attempted. This project not only will bring the displaced residence of Louisiana home to a eco-friendly pad, it will also bring a national awareness to recycle waste material to help a worthy cause on a national level.
Community, Entertainment, and Organizational Collaborations are the keys to making, “Green The Gulf,” a success. Green The Gulf puts out the banner, “We Don’t Want Your Cash, We Want Your Trash.” During the wake of Hurricane Katrina their was an outpour of support from various celebrities and entertainers. With the same support of celebrities and entertainers we will be able to showcase live concerts in support to Green The Gulf. With community members willing to donate; bottles, cans, cell phones, ink toner cartridges, newspapers, aluminum and other renewable resources, their reward will be event tickets to the largest green party on earth, “Green The Gulf.”
