What’s Your Story-FEMA Trailer Crisis

July 29, 2008

On August 29, 2005 the Mississippi Gulf was shaken by Hurricane Rita, followed by Hurricane Katrina. Who can forget the devastation of babies grasping to mothers on roof tops, or the elderly crying for help as they took their last breath under stale muddy waters.

Many people were, lost, displaced, and dead. After the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina thousands were sorted to various neighboring cities and states for refuge. Thousands more stayed in the Gulf to rebuild. As a quick response to the need for housing, FEMA provided Gulf residence with trailers. An overwhelming need for trailers sent contracted trailer makers into a production frenzy making quantity over quality a huge factor in the testing of Formaldehyde gases in the thousands of trailers that were sent to Katrina survivors.

Now, months and even years later many survivors have been poisoned by high levels of Formaldehyde gases experiencing; nose bleeds, upper respiratory problems, burning eyes, skin rashes and other related symptoms. Now many have suffered these symptoms, most among children and the elderly but none have been exempt to chronic symptoms of formaldehyde poisoning.

Many have come forward about their health issues, but many others are afraid to tell their stories due to possible government backlash, and prolongated homelessness. Due to the outbreak of the formaldehyde tralier crisis many have sought help and refuge with little help.
